Tip 1: Determine if there are local laws you most comply with when choosing colors

It’s very important to consider local laws before painting. If you live in a HOA they may have a list of approved colors you can choose from. If your home is historic than you may have to stay within historic colors. If you do not adhere to local guidelines you may be fined until you repaint with approved colors.

Tip 2: Get Inspiration

Get inspired by your neighbors, magazines, online searches of similar homes as yours, or friends and family. It may be easier to choose colors when your able to see finished exteriors that look similar to yours.

Tip 3: What is your homes style?

Consider your homes style when choosing color. If your going for a modern, minimalist style than it may be best to stick to neutral colors but if you want your home to stand out more, you may benefit from bold, bright colors.

Tip 4: Compare colors to your roof and landscape.

When choosing a color, you dont want it to clash with your roof color. It is best to choose a color thats a few shades lighter or darker than your roof to create a good contrast. Also factor in your landscape, neighbors homes, and other exterior details as you will not want to clash with your other surrounding areas.

Tip 5: Compare Colors in Different Lighting

Paint colors typically look different in different lighting conditions, such as morning, afternoon, evening, and night. We recommend testing sample swatches of your desired colors under different lighting before settling on the right one, especially since natural light will affect how specific colors appear on the exterior of your home.
